    Description

    1843 Large Cent, Petite Head, Small Letters Reverse. Last of the early Type of Coronet Head Cents, with “tilted” head of Liberty giving the impression of the date being in the wrong place. Liberty’s bust design & placement was altered later this year, probably in an attempt to make the design look a bit better balanced. Overall detail being in the Choice Very Fine range, close to Thirty-five. There is a sense of weak strike in the stars around the Obverse rim, which may have been due to a worn die used near the end of the period prior to replacement of the Obverse Master, or it may have been a planchet issue. This displays a fairly noticeable planchet flaw which appears to be a peeled lamination on the Reverse rim at 1:00-2:00 (enlarged image shown). Some stray contact marks in the Obverse field, but otherwise appears problem free and original.  I am happy to combine shipping for multiple items.
