An absolutely gorgeous 1856 Upright 5, braided hair large cent graded MS 65 BN by PCGS. This coin carries a superior strike throughout both sides with very attractive and original chocolate brown surfaces. It holds very mark free surfaces for the grade and is one of the most attractive braided hair large cents we have ever offered. This date is very common for the series making it perfect for a high end U.S type collector.
This date holds a large mintage of 2,690,463. However, of this very large mintage the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that only 6,000 have survived in all grades today that are the Upright 5 style. Of these remaining survivors, they estimate that only 75 have survived to be in Mint State 65 Brown or better condition. This coin is one of only 59 graded Mint State 65 Brown by PCGS.
