    Elizabeth Marks Nakamarra
was born in Papunya and currently lives in Kintore and Mount Liebig. Her husband was the renowned artist Mick Namerari Tjapaltjarri. Since his passing in 1998, Elizabeth became an artist in her own right, whose paintings are sought after by collectors worldwide.
Elizabeth has developed a very distinctive painting style depicting elements of her father and grandfather Dreaming. These stories have been handed down through her family for thousands of years and are held sacred. Her paintings often revolve around a Dreaming story, from the time before man walked the earth, when a huge storm caused lightning to flash and the water torrent formed the landscape. Her paintings incorporate elements of the storm, lightning, flash flooding, important rock holes, soaks and creeks. She is best known for her Escher-like paintings, which use one light hue on a contrasting dark background. Her strong lines and complex compositions require a great deal of artistic foresight.
Elizabeth’s art has been collected and exhibited around the world. She has been named one of Australia’s “Most Collectible” in by the prestigious Australian Art Collectors publication. Elizabeth’s Lightning Dreaming style was prominently featured in the Seattle Art Museum’s Ancestral Modern exhibition and catalogue.
