Previously only available in Japan, the made in the US (Oakland, CA) 60/40 Patrol Insulated Parka is true classic Sierra Designs. Founded in 1965 by George Marks and Bob Swanson in Point Richard, CA, Sierra Designs was started by two people with a passion fueled by their love for the outdoors. The mission was simple, 'to specialize in the manufacturing of quality, lightweight equipment designed for the climber, backpacker, skier, or any sportsman who demands quality gear.' For Sierra Designs, this is a return to their roots, to where they began, and to how it all started.
A classic look and time-tested design, the Patrol Insulated Parka is the ultimate outdoor jacket. This parka from Sierra Design is durable, practical, with multiple pockets and weather-resistant fabric.
60 / 40 Fabric
Introduced by Sierra Designs in 1968, the 60 / 40 parka has become an outdoor classic. Tightly woven in a blend of 60% cotton / 40% nylon, the fabric is so dense that it is classified as downproof ~ not to mention windproof. At the same time, 60 / 40 fabric is breathable, durable, and soft to the touch. It's as useful on a picnic as it is on Mt. McKinley.
After several time dry cleanings, reactivate the fabric's DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish by applying heat, a medium dryer.
It may also be necessary, once in a blue moon, to use a wash-in DWR.
